DNG’s mission is to change the world, one person at a time, through mentorship, opportunity, and support. Today’s youth have a staggering rate of 44% hopelessness. We, at DeLorean Next Generation believe we can impact that through educational opportunities which allow students to visualize success in a field they feel passionate about. To accomplish this, DNG has created partnerships with industry leaders in education, manufacturing and engineering. Cultivating a revolutionary, hands-on approach to engineering education that culminates in students working together to design, engineer, and manufacture automobiles by the time they graduate high school.
The DeLorean Dream Institute is an Automotive Engineering program for high school students that will incorporate existing CORE and STEM education offerings within each district and work to create a comprehensive engineering program that covers design, engineering, and manufacturing in the mobility space. Each curriculum will be customized based on the district’s needs and current offerings. This includes DNG seeking to establish partnerships and collaborate with existing program providers to create the most inclusive, cost-effective and expansive program possible.
Students will be presented with instructor-led projects that guide them through learning CORE standards and engineering principles while challenging them to think like engineers through a three-track approach encompassing design, engineering, and manufacturing. The program guides students to approach and solve problems like an engineer. It is structured to ensure collaboration across all three tracks, beginning at the program's outset, culminating in a capstone experience like no other. The students learn to appreciate the magnitude of overlap in each track and how important understanding the entire process is to a successful automotive build. To graduate the most well-rounded automotive design, manufacturing, and engineering students, DNG's curriculum emphasizes the significance of every team member and aspect involved in the automotive build. Contributing to students' understanding of teamwork and their integral role in the process. Students depart with a comprehensive grasp of how the capacity to manufacture and bring a design to life directly influences the design process itself.
DNG strongly embraces a partnership model, actively integrating existing programs and collaborating with partners whenever feasible. This approach aims to promote and support existing programs rather than creating unnecessary competition. Existing technology and simulation programs will provide the students with the opportunity to not only design their vehicles in virtual space with 3D CAD programs, but also to simulate the build and test the final product. Students will experience a comprehensive automotive build before high school graduation.
This program will be funded both through charitable donations as well as the sale of automobiles by DeLorean Next Generation Motors (DNG Motors). DNG Motors will work to create a comprehensive automotive build program that leverages the program to involve and inspire students every step of the way. Each portion of the DNG automotive design and manufacturing process will incorporate the ability to create apprenticeship and teaching opportunities, providing pathways and support that will allow students to experience real-world challenges and solutions in the automotive build process. Each level of the program is designed to help provide teachers with a broader opportunity to work with their students in a problem-solving and collaborative way. Beginning by offering the CTE pathway requirements, DNG will work with districts to create opportunities to expand beyond these initial courses to create more specialized pathways for students. By offering classes structured around students’ interests, such as those required for their CORE classes and requirements, students will have increased engagement and a more robust program experience. Each course is meticulously designed to integrate state learning standards. By seamlessly incorporating standard CORE requirements into engineering courses, we create an immersive learning environment. This approach enables students to grasp complex topics without the sensation of traditional learning. In the programs final year, students will collaborate on a capstone project, actively participating in the full manufacturing and assembly of an automobile. Sponsors will generously provide core components, and while specific elements are predetermined, students will engage in the manufacture of external body panels and other components. This hands-on experience allows them to engineer solutions using available technologies, witnessing the culmination of their efforts in a fully assembled automobile.
